Training

The International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 673 began its training program in 1964.  Many of today’s retirees came through the program in those early days, which gave them the necessary tools to become highly skilled operating engineers and the ability to provide a better way of life for themselves and their families.

Training Session

Over the years the North Central Florida Operating Engineers, JATC has continued to improve to where it is today.  Which includes a four-year state and federal registered apprenticeship program.  as well as journeymen upgrades and certifications needed to provide our signatory contractors with a skilled workforce throughout the 24 county jurisdiction that local 673 covers in the State of Florida.

The North-Central Florida Operating Engineers, JATC has training sites in Jacksonville and Orlando, Florida, with experienced instructors qualified to teach heavy equipment apprenticeship, all OSHA safety classes, and NCCCO certification training classes in Mobile, Tower, Signalperson and Rigger level 1. NCCCO accredited practical examiners are available for practical exams in all of these areas. Practical exams are conducted at both Jacksonville and Orlando training sites for Rigging Level I & Signalperson exams, and just our Jacksonville location for Mobile Crane exams currently. The North Central Florida Operating Engineers, JATC and Local 673 prides itself in joint training with others trades as well as the partnership with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue USAR Team, where the USAR Team is provided necessary training in crane signaling and rigging and the proper use of heavy equipment in catastrophic events.
